Abstract

Two melanistic or black tapirs (Tapirus indicus spp brevetianus) were recorded on two occasions in Jerangau Forest Reserve, Ulu Terengganu. Both of these records were made by infrared cameras set up to study tiger presence and movement. This lowland forest was logged over 30 years ago. Only the back half of the animal was recorded, but this was sufficient to show the all black color of the tapir.
